GUM DISEASE - PREVENT AT ANY COST?
Did you know?
In India only more than 10 million cases of Gum diseases reported every year. It is a serious threat to our life as human beings.
Symptoms:
1. Gingivitus - inflamation of the gums at the necks of the teeth.
2. Periodontitis - inflammation affecting the bone and tissues of the teeth.
It begins with the bacterial growth (a sticky form of bacteria to build up on the teeth and harden called plaque ) typically caused by poor brushing and flossing habits that allow plaque, causes the gums to became
Red, swollen and bleed easily.
Requires Medical Diagnosis:
Treatment consists of improved dental hygiene, includes professionally cleaning the pockets around teeth to prevent damage to
surrounding bone. Advanced cases may require surgery.
Possible danger:
Regular brushing of teeth which prevents periodontal disease may lower the risk of suffering a "stroke" or a "heart attack" reports
Milenio, a Mexican newspaper.
It continues, "people with high levels of bacteria that cause periodontal disease also had a 'narrower carotid artery'. " One possible
explanation is that the microorganisms that cause periodontal disease emigrate snd travel
throughout the bloodstream, which stimulates the immune system and provokes inflammation ". In turn, that inflammation increases the buildup of fatty deposits in the arteries or contributes to the formation of blood clots that can lead to heart attacks.
Therefore "caring for oral health may have a
significant impact on cardiovascular health ".
Awareness:
Gum Health Day 2020 to be celebrating worldwide on 12th May.
Its slogan : "Say NO to bleeding Gum".
Its aims: "To remind people that Gum Health is a key factor for general health and well being throughout life, and that gum diseases is an important public health issue as it is linked to very serious conditions " (News, Medical Life Science )
